Why are hashtags important? Hashtags expand your content’s audience. Essentially, hashtags are “keywords” for social media, and when more of your content is seen, you have more opportunities to attract leads.
How does Google Trends do it? Trends adjusts and analyzes search data to make comparisons between search terms (and hashtags) easier.
Case Study 1: Go to trends.google.com. At the time of this writing, we entered “Buy a Home” into the “search term or topic” bar. Among several results, “Dog Palace” was listed as a “Related Topic.” In other words, the search “Buy a Home” has been found to be related to “Dog Palace.” So, if you’re a dog lover and love working with other dog lovers, one of your hashtags could be #dogpalace.
Case Study 2: Go to trends.google.com. At the time of this writing, we entered “Sell My Home” into the “search term or topic” bar. Among several results, “Mortgage Calculator” was listed as a “Related Topic.” In other words, the search “Sell My Home” has been found to be related to “Mortgage Calculator.” So, if you’re sharing high-value content for home sellers, don’t just use #moveup as a hashtag, also use #mortgagecalculator (among others).
