Diving Into Googles New Search Updates - Agent Operations - Agent Operations marketing - real estate marketing - realtor marketing

Google is the most popular search engine in the world, with nearly 92% of the global search engine market and 5.9 million searches per minute. While it might not be perfect, specialists are constantly making updates to enhance and improve the user experience.

Let’s dive into a few of Google’s newest updates below.

Core Algorithm Update

Google just announced a new “core update” aimed at reducing spam and low-quality results. Google is making two fundamental changes to improve the quality of the results you receive in your searches, including:

Enhancements to Core Ranking Systems

Google began testing for a low-quality downranking project in 2022 to remove unhelpful search results and unoriginal content. Google has worked to refine this project and is bringing what they have learned into the March 2024 core update. The update will help Google understand if web pages are unhelpful or have poor user experiences and should reduce low-quality content by 40%.

New and Improved Spam Policies

Google continues to utilize advanced spam-fighting systems and spam policies to reduce the amount of low-quality content. However, they will be making several updates to their policies to address evolving practices better:

  • Strengthening their policy on scaled content to boost search rankings
  • Reduce the amount of low-quality, third-party content posting to high-quality web pages for “ranking purposes”
  • Buckling down on expired domain abuse by considering them spam

Social Media Posts Added to Business Listings

Google added the option to add social media profiles to your Google Business listings in October, but now they have added a new section where you can display recent social media posts from your profiles.

Business owners can now connect their Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and more via their Google Business dashboard, so their recent posts will be displayed in a new “Social Media Updates” sub-section. This new element can drive more traffic to your social media pages and generate more leads for your business.

If you don’t have a business page set up through Google, it’s time to start! Many people, including potential leads, use Google daily to search for what they need.
